Workin’ Mama
This is a booklet inspired by working mothers,
filled with researched facts that are expressed in bright pop art-inspired colors.
Concept
At the time I designed this booklet, my son Anthony was about 18 months old. This project coincided with me being a full-time graduate student, a part-time caretaker for kids with special needs, and a full-time mother to a baby - a lot to balance on one’s shoulder.
I asked myself:
“How many other mothers work?”
“What do they do?”
Sketches
Original idea for this book was for there to be a mother character that asked different questions to the reader.
Process
InDesign is a fantastic software to use for layout design and publishing. Ruler guides within InDesign helped me position, align, and display my text precisely where I wanted it.
Book Binding
The method chosen for my book is called Stab Binding. I used a black waxed yarn for my stitching. It was fairly easy to do and I greatly enjoyed learning a new technique.
